Pen Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization dedicated to the spread of children’s literature, literacy, and education to underserved communities. We began our journey after the COVID-19 Pandemic, where schools, already tried by the global shutdown and online learning, began the shaky process of rebuilding.
It was around this time that our founders, Alexander Chen and Andrew Chen, first wrote the book Butterfly and Friends. After self-publishing the work, they decided to donate copies of their book; first to friends and family, and then to the higher cause of underserved children.
One of Pen Inc’s first missions was the donation of Butterfly and Friends and its sequel, Is it a Fish?, to Head Start Preschools, which cater to low-income preschool children and their families. Since then, we have donated to all 7 Head Start preschools in the ABC Unified School District in California, and have begun expanding our donation program to more underserved children in the local area and abroad. In fact, we have even donated copies of our books to an orphanage in Mkushi, Zambia!
The program has acquired several accolades from local policymakers, such as the ABC School District, District 4 Supervisor Janice Hahn, and 67th Assembly District Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva. We thank everyone for their support thus far, and we cannot wait to continue our service to the community.
